It all started out when Miki Agrawal (SLICE’s
founder) could no longer enjoy a slice of
pizza. The cheese hurt her tummy too much.
The hormones, antibiotics and additives in
the dairy industry were causing her to be
lactose intolerant.
After some research, Miki realized that 80%
of the world are lactose intolerant (to varying
degrees) and upon digging deeper, found out
that over two thirds of Americans are overweight
and obese and the rates are steadily climbing,
especially among children.
Something had to be
done.
The dream was to create a safe haven for anyone
with allergies, anyone who is health conscious
or anyone who cares about the environment
to be able to enjoy a clean slice of pizza.
With a team of smart friends, along with her
twin sister Radha, SLICE,
the perfect food opened its doors
on the Upper East Side of New York City on
October 27th, 2005.
The menu consists of all-natural
and organic pizzas
that offer a different
and delicious
taste from the typical slice. Each slice is
cut into 4 smaller triangles to promote sharing
and eating slower. After two years of business,
SLICE has expanded its menu to offer customer
favorites like “The Bomb”, an
all-natural spicy Chicken Tikka Masala pizza
which comes on herb crust with low-fat organic
mozzarella cheese, free-range, antibiotic-free,
and hormone-free chicken breast in spicy tikka
masala sauce.
SLICE also offers hearty soups, organic salads
with homemade dressings and vegan desserts.

Upon request, pizza can be made gluten-free,
lactose-free, wheat-free and vegan.
“I remember when the restaurant was featured
on the Food Network, we received calls from
over forty states asking us when they will be
able to taste this healthy treat in their hometown
and we were inspired to create a product that
can satisfy this amazing demand” said
Miki. “I’m excited to spread the
mindset that comfort foods like pizza can be
equally healthy and tasty, and as I watch skeptics
continue to transform their opinion after their
first bite, it’s enough to keep me inspired.”
SLICE began working with Coalition
For Healthy School Lunches and Wellness
In The Schools to offer a better version
of pizza for school cafeterias. Miki also began
giving talks to school classrooms on the importance
of eating healthy and keeping active. |

In early 2007, SLICE began wholesaling its
products to local cafes, hotels, restaurants
and bars around New York City. SLICE products
are now being wholesaled to over a dozen locations
in Manhattan including Goldman Sachs Bank,
The Grand Hyatt Hotel, Hotel Roger Williams,
Spring Street Natural Café, Benvenuto
Café, The Bowery Poetry Club, BB&R,
The Blind Pig Bar, Uncle Marky’s Organics
among several others.
SLICE launched its “BUILD-YOUR-OWN PIZZA
KITS” to supermarkets in September of
2008 and is also working with several organizations
to use the pizza kits as a fundraising tool
in the scholastic year.
